Welcome to the Holly Glen Hammerheads!

We are excited to announce the 6th season of the Holly Glen Swim team. We plan to begin practices Monday, May 20th, 2024.

Being a part of the Hammerhead Swim Team is a great experience. Swimming is a healthy and competitive sport. Developing quality swimmers is only one of our goals. We also strive to instill team pride, sportsmanship, community unity, and respect for others. We want to maximize participation of all children and provide an environment where children of all talent levels can have fun and feel like they have contributed to the team’s success.

Although we are funded independently by swimmers and sponsors, the Holly Glen Homeowners Association is supportive of our team’s effort and allows the use of the pool, grounds, and facilities within the pool area.

The Holly Glen Hammerheads are a member of the Tarheel Swimming Association (TSA) and we are governed by their guidelines and rules. Detailed information about the TSA is available at www.tsa.swimtopia.com

Swimming Qualifications:

All swimmers on the Hammerheads swim team must be residents of the Holly Glen neighborhood in good standing with the HOA. Although there are no try-outs in order to be a member of the swim team, basic swimming skills are necessary. New and inexperienced swimmers are strongly encouraged to obtain swim lessons before the season begins. You don’t have to be fast to be on the team, you just have to want to participate and have fun!

We will be using our swim team website to register families, share news and events, and communicate with team members. All families will need to create a Swimtopia account in order to register. We also have a Facebook page - Holly Glen Swim Team Group.

Registration: 

Registration for the 2024 swim season is expected to open on Friday March 29! We will be using the same online system as previous years to register our swimmers. If you are a returning Hammerhead, please use the account you signed in with previous seasons and your child’s information will auto fill.

Dues are $115 per swimmer and $5 off per additional swimmer. All payments will be made online through the Swimtopia website. The last day to register will be Sunday, May 19, 2024. After registering, a $25 fee will be charged to any swimmers who drop. The last day to drop with a partial refund will be May 26, 2024.

Parents, please note that in order to finish registration you will need to sign up for 4 volunteer shifts before completing your registration. If there is a position you've enjoyed volunteering for in the past please feel free to sign up for all 6 meets!

What You’ll Need:

All swimmers will need a team swimsuit. Parents can purchase this year’s team swimsuits through Kiefer Aquatics (formerly All American Swim) in Cary. Ordering suits this year is by phone, online, or in-store. Girls suits are $43.50 and boys jammers are $37.20. If you are unsure of your suit size, we strongly suggest you head to Kiefer Aquatics (address below) to try on a suit before placing your order.

Swimmers will be given a team t-shirt and swim cap as part of registration, but will need to provide their own goggles.

Volunteers:

When a child joins a swim team, so do the parents. This sport requires parents to be participants. It takes many people to run a successful meet so there is a job for everyone. Training for most jobs takes only a few minutes; a small number of jobs require attending a clinic. Please make sure that one member of your family works at least 4 meets, including the Time Trials Mock Meet, during the swim season. In total, approximately 50 volunteers are required to run a meet. If you enjoyed your volunteer job from a previous season we highly recommend that you sign up for the same job this year!

Meets:

The TSA competitive summer swim season consists of six dual swim meets. All meets will be held on Tuesday evenings, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather the meet will be held the following night (Wednesday). All swimmers and parents who have signed up to volunteer are expected to participate on all make up days.

Practices:

Practices begin on Monday, May 20, 2024. Practices will be held after school Monday through Thursday. If your swimmer is 8 or under they will practice from 5:00-5:50. The 11 and older age groups will practice from 6:00-6:50. Since the 9-10 group is so large, swimmers in that group can choose to attend whichever practice is more convenient. Although we encourage attendance to as many practices and meets as possible, we recognize that the swimming season is also a popular time for families to travel. If you are going to miss a meet we just ask that you update your child’s calendar on our website.

Board Members:

We have a Holly Glen Swim Team Board that hires the coaches, sets the registration fees, and organizes equipment, activities, and volunteers. They will devise and execute various types of recognition; keep track of swimming times and records; and facilitate communication between the Holly Glen Homeowners Association and the Hammerheads Swim Team coaches, swimmers, and parents.
